Used and Discount Barber Chairs

!±8± Used and Discount Barber Chairs

You could assume that the only men and women that could want to buy barber chairs are those folk that work in a beauty shop or a barber establishment, but barber chairs also can be employed at dental offices and tattoo shops. Now this writing is about where you can find modern and discount barber chairs.

Barber chairs are made in a variety of styles, and you can find contemporary or old fashioned models. You could find them almost anywhere online and you will find both modern and discount barber chairs. The place that they shall be in, will determine the particular design that may be employed.

Types of Chairs
There are various sorts of barber chairs to think about should you be looking for one. Form and function are ultimately necessary. Here are a few to think about:

Traditional -- this one comes as a regular chair, or with hydraulics. Obviously chairs with hydraulics enable the practitioner to raise or lower the chair as needed. Usually these are made out of leather or vinyl and have a chrome base.

Facial tables -- though they are commonly called spa chairs, these are in reality barbers chairs. They can be reclined so that you can receive a facial while the technician sits down. They also have a hydraulic mechanism that can raise and lower the individual receiving the facial in a comfortable position. They are adjustable and will rest the entire body.

European -- this is the sturdier chair that is composed of vinyl with arms of wood. It has a hydraulic base and you can raise and lower the chair as needed. They are fully adjustable and usually have a headrest that is part of the entire package. People who use these chairs in their salons or at home are making a statement of elegance.

All Purpose - these are usually smaller than other barber chairs so they can be used in a salon or tattoo parlor. Most people are comfortable in these chairs because they have a small headrest. It reclines so it can also be used as a shampoo chair, or for reclining an individual when getting certain types of tattoos.

Antique Barber Chair - Not Just For Haircuts Anymore

!±8± Antique Barber Chair - Not Just For Haircuts Anymore

Today, an antique barber chair is no longer confined in the premises of a traditional barber shop. With its intricate and high-quality wood carvings and metalwork, it is a beautiful piece that could put character and richness into your home. For antique lovers, an antique chair from a barber shop is definitely a great addition to your collection.

It was not until the early 1800's that companies started to come out and produce their own patented barber chairs. These antique chairs were built to have reclining back rests, 360 degree spinning capabilities, head and foot rests, wooden frames, metal trimmings, upholstered seats, and hydraulic lifts.

During these times, there were two distinguished manufacturing companies that existed - the Koken Company and the Eugene Berninghaus Company. One is the pioneering company of the barber chairs industry while the other invented the first ever fully-functional hydraulic lift chairs. Which is which?

Ernest Koken was the inventor of the first prototypes of hydraulic-lifted barber chairs during the late 18th century. His famous company, Koken Barbers Supply, was the leading manufacturer in the barber industry from the late 1800's and went out of business in the 1950's.

Their stylish products were made from solid wood materials, such as oak and walnut, and had exposed metal frameworks. Both of these structural materials were intricately carved with beautiful designs that often integrate the name of the company everywhere on the chair. These have tufted leather seats, which have black, green, or red color variations just to name a few. The arm and foot rests are also completely padded.

The pioneering company of barber chairs in the United States was the Eugene Berninghaus Company, which started their operation in 1875. Their products were so famous that they even appeared in films, such as "The Great Dictators" that featured Charles Chaplin and also in the film "Time Machine" by M.G.M. in 1960.

Their popular collection of barber r furniture, also known as Hercules, was made from maple, cherry, mahogany, oak, walnut, and Birdseye. The Hercules number 58 has a one-hand lever - conveniently situated on the right side of the chair - that controls its entire mechanical function. This chair can be swiveled, reclined, lowered, and raised. The exceptional detailing of this chair contains elegant wood carvings and upholstered leather seats.

One rule of thumb in antique shopping is that a low-priced barber chair would normally mean that it's in a bad shape. An antique barber chair that's in great physical and working condition is priced anywhere from ,000-,000. So, before you buy anything, make sure that you explore your options for a high-quality antique barber chair.

Used Salon Equipment Can Reduce Start Up Costs

!±8± Used Salon Equipment Can Reduce Start Up Costs

If you are planning on opening a salon or barbershop on a shoe string budget one route you may consider is purchasing used equipment. Many times when a salon or spa owner wants to update their furniture, some distributors offer a trade in option or allow the old items to be put on consignment. These distributors should inspect and test the functionality of the items before they accept them. You may be able to purchase some high end equipment at a very reasonable price.

However, be weary of the product if it is a really old item. You may have a very hard time finding replacement parts if you ever need them. If the distributor that you are purchasing the second hand salon furniture from carries those manufacturer's products it can be a big bonus. Just verify that they can get replacement parts if you need them in the near future.

Before purchasing used equipment take the time to inspect and test the product carefully. If applicable, pay close attention to the stitching to ensure it is not starting to separate. This type of damage may be hard to see depending on the type of stitching but take a moment and try to separate it with your fingers. Where the material is stitched together simply put your fingers on either side and lightly try to separate the material away from the stitching.

If the item you are interested in has a hydraulic such as a styling chair or barber chair make sure you test the hydraulic carefully. Pump the chair up as high as it goes and then lower it to its lowest setting several times. Listen carefully for any gurgling noises which will indicate that air is in the hydraulic fluid and may be a sign of an internal seal going bad. Also, have the chair raised to its highest setting while you sit in the chair. Stay sitting in the chair in this position for several minutes to make sure it will hold its position. If the chair slowly lowers it is an indication that an internal component is starting to deteriorate.

Always test electrical items before you purchase them. This is even more important with used salon equipment. Turn the items on and let them run while you browse around. Let the item run for 15-30 minutes before you turn it off and then turn it back on for a few minutes. This is important because some of the electrical components may initially work but may overheat and fail after a duration of time.

Unfortunately, there is one main drawback to purchasing used equipment. Most distributors will not provide any type of warranty on these items. You may be able to negotiate a 30 day warranty if your purchase is large enough but make sure you get it in writing. As the old saying goes "If it's not in writing, it didn't happen."
